Laboratory Technician - UK Wide

ALcontrol Laboratories is the largest food testing company in the UK with locations in The Netherlands, Sweden, France and Germany. The business is very successful and is expanding rapidly. Alcontrol Food operates from 6 sites in UK & Ireland and offers a wide range of analytical services to food manufacturers throughout the UK. We are currently inviting applications for Laboratory Technicians, to work within our Food Laboratory in Bellshill, Shrewsbury, Rotherham, Spalding, Dunstable and Newton Abbott.

Key Responsibilities:
• Perform preparation and analytical procedures following written methods to strict deadlines.
• Sub-culturing, sample plating and plate counting.
• Conform to the Quality and Health & Safety requirements.
• Update and maintain all work records, filing and sample storage as directed.
• Report any faults and/or abnormalities in equipment or data produced to the team leader
• Ensure training records are up to date, partake in internal audits and QC tests.
• Inform the media section of low stock levels of media required by the work area.
• Manage storage and disposal of samples
• Calibrate balances and check equipment (thermometers, pipettes and dispensers) per AQC requirements.
• Assist the team leader with the training of other staff in various techniques as required.
• Other ad hoc duties as and when required.

Experience/ Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a GCSE science qualification. No experience is required as full training will be given. Applicants with a degree in Microbiology or Chemistry may be eligible for accelerated promotion. Work experience in a contract laboratory or food handling environment is preferable. An eye for detail, methodical approach and ability to work on your own initiative are essential within this role.
